On first glance you would say this is a really beautiful CRANBERRY cut glass scent bottle with bevelled corners .... it has a gilt sterling silver hinged top which to be fair is a little dented... ( this can be pushed out by a proffesional ).Popping open the top by lightly depressing the button you see it has glass inset into the lid top... it has NO stopper in the mouth of the bottle ..I dont think it has ever had one either with the glass being inset into the lid...this is the seal. ..with a silver decorated base as you find on hip flasks and the like.
LOOKING again at the base again you will see it is in fact a Vinaigrette ...this too has originally been gilt silver... alot more gilding remains on this than the top. All of this vinaigrette has lovely engraved work upon it of Swirly Foliage & Flowers ...typical of the era. it too has bevelled corners to match the glass bottle.
Even the base is engraved....the vinaigrette opens as you would a normal one then inside you see the lovely pierced - fretted lid design..the Gilding still remains on the top and inside of the lid. here is the Birmingham 1866 hallmark with Victoria Bust too as well as the FM makers mark. i have not been able to find the maker. the pierced top hinges open the other way ..again its hallmarked in here but as usual the silver is discoloured ...it may clean off but i have left it alone..the gilt is showing through in places.
The vinaigrette lid has a slight dent ...but because it is the BASE of the bottle it .the top lid hinges open ok and the push button is quite tight...so do a little carefull with this. the cut glass has a few tiny nibbles on the edges..it has NO cracks or chips ...nothing major..just the normal wear and tear marks of an item that has been used .
The last collectors little gold lable I have left on the bottle..this will of course peel off and its not covering any cracks etc... When opening the inner pierced grill you MUST make sure you close it again fully before closing the lid..as you will find it does not want to shut and it does not want to open either ...which really goes without saying...but you will be suprized WHAT i have to say to some buyers !
I'm sure the vinaigrette collectors out there will know how RARE this item is... I do have a reasonable start price as ebay has changed somewhat for the worse of late in my opinion ....their new searches are shite , to say the least..alot of items dont even get seen ..and I will not start this at 99p as I would have done last year... too many items dont get the coverage nor the buyers..this could be to do with alot of factors...I Dont like hidden buyer ID ...and I think this puts certain buyers off.. can understand why.
The bottle is 9.5cm tall overall x 3.5cm x 2cm..it weighs approx....110grams... the vinaigrette is 3.5cm x 2cm x 1.5cm deep.
I do combine shipping.
If a scale is shown it is in CENTIMETRES ... 2.5cm = 1 inch
