John Joseph Briggs 1819-1876, farmer, naturalist, poet, topographer was born in the village of Kings Newton Derbyshire. As a farmer he became a chronicler of the season and wrote regularly for The Field and other newspapers.
This is his volume of poems with 5 illustrations plus descriptive notes on his poems.

Handwritten inscription on front endpaper: ? e. Briggs with love from her affectionate mother May 9th 1876

CONDITION
Re-bound with leather spine and corners, marbled boards, spine with raised bands, gilt decorations and gilt lettered title, some pages have heavy damp stains, some have foxing.
Size is 8½ by 5¾ inches.
