THE
 CHIMES

A GOBLIN STORYOF SOME BELLS THAT RANG AN OLD YEAR OUT
AND A NEW YEAR IN
 BY
 CHARLES DICKENS

LONDON
BRADBURY & EVANS, 11, BOUVERIE STREET
1858

The Chimes is one of Dickens' classic Christmas tales first published in 1845. The book is divided into sections to match the quarter hour chiming of a clock's bells.
This was Dicken's second Christmas book, the tale of a porter Tody Veck  who is under the influence of the goblins of the church bells. He has a terrible nightmare with a vision of misfortune for his daughter Trotty's future.
Filled with comic characters the story has some mention of social injustice and has a happy ending.

This is a slim volume with a total of 105 pages.

Signature on title page : Henry M. King. 1860.
