William John Broderip1789- 1859 English naturalist, elected a fellow of the Linnean Society in 1824, of the Geological Society in1825, and of the Royal Society in1828. He aided, in 1826, in the formation of the Zoological Society, of which he was one of the original fellows, and was secretary of the Geological Society for some time. His writings did much to further the study of zoology in England and few naturalists have more graphically described the habits of animals The zoological articles in the Penny Cyclopaedia were written by him, and a series of articles contributed to Fraser's Magazine were printed as a collection in this work.
