Sara Ellis 1812-1872, English writer, and a strong supporter of temperance reform and foreign missions. She wrote numerous novels, many including this work were designed
to help, educate and improve the lives of English women.

This is the scarce three decker novel, a first edition, all complete with 3 extra engraved
 title pages and 28 engraved plates by Thomas Allan.

CONDITION
Antique three quarter leather bindings spines with gilt decorations and gilt lettered titles. Leather has some wear with loss to top of spine of volume 1, bindings are firm, slight foxing to a few pages and plates.
Size of each volume is 8½ by 5½ inches
