1840 SG 1/3 1d. Black Plate 3. Four Margins IB. V. NICE
This is a very nice example from the Plate 3 penny black on a small piece. The margin is close at the SE corner. On the reverse, as seen on the scan, it is marked "Kelso".
The maltese cross cancellation does seem to match the distinctive Kelso Cross as depicted on page 55 of the SG specialized, so this might be for you if you collect these. However, I find it very hard to confirm these distinctive cancellations of stamps that are not tied to a cover. Overall, an excellent example of the first postage stamp. Lettered IB.
