Fisher, Son, & Jackson, London, 1930-1932 (First Editions)
Description: three volumes in publisher's original half light brown bindings, red title labels to the spine, gilt decorations and four raised bands to the spine, marbled boards, marbled page ends and end pages, illustrated throughout, each volume un-numbered overall, except within each of the chapters:
Volume 1, dated 1830.
Volume 2, dated 1831.
Volume 3, dated 1832.
General Remarks: William Jerdan is the only noted contributor for these volumes, although not indicated within them as the author.
These three volumes are the first three volumes of a five volume run between 1830 and 1834, they are illustrated throughout and, apart from some external rubbing and bumping and some internal foxing, remain in very good condition overall. The principle of each of the volumes is that they consist on a whole range of chapters, each dedicated to a prominent individual. For each chapter there is a short life history of the individual, and en engraving of a portrait of them.
Only one set of these volumes are noted in the Integrated Catalogue of the British Library and elsewhere on the Internet, therefore, these are first editions.
