This is the rare four volume first edition of one of his early novels. In this work he drew upon his own youthful experiences with the gypsies near his mothers estates and his brief adventures in France.

Each volume has its own title page, a total of over 1,300 pages.

CONDITION
Three quarter leather bindings with marbled boards and marbled endpapers. These volumes have been professionally re-spined  with matching speckled leather with blind tooled decorations and gilt title labels. The title pages have heavy foxing, some pages have foxing.
Fine attractive bindings.
