Here we have a quite splendid solid silver COFFEE BIGGIN POT.
A most beautiful pot, this piece is assayed in DUBLIN,1818 by James Fry for Alderman West-refer to page 645 of Jackson's huge book on hallmarks.
Without doubt this is the nicest coffee or teapot i have ever had.I feel privileged to own it,if only for a very short time!!
All hallmarks are particularly deep and clear,as good as the day they were first stamped in fact.Marked with distinctive irish shaped duty mark too to handle and to underside of lid by finial.
It has clearly spent large amounts of time in the cupboard!
Actual silver weight is a staggering 861 grams (27.77 troy ounces)!!
The design is most appealing and this piece displays top quality craftsmanship.
For reference pot is 8 inches in height,it is thus of very large size.Diameter is 8.5 inches also. The handle and finial are firm and secure. There is no play either to the lid hinge.Ivoree insulators perfect and secure likewise.
A stunning and ridiculously large and heavy pot!
It sits on a circular base.
The condition is superb,it looks seldom used.
It is wonderfully and clearly engraved on both sides and always has been, absolutely no erasures whatsoever.
I cannot trace this armorial and motto, can anyone help please?
This early Irish pot is highly attractive and would grace any home.
The condition is pristine in fact and the pot oozes quality.
It deserves to be in a museum!!!
Very functional, desireable and well worth a bid.
