BY
HUMPHREY HEDGEHOG, ESQ.

LONDON
1814
FIRST EDITION

John Agg 1783-1855 was a pamphleteer, poet and satirist.
This slim volume is a collection of satirical verses written by him under the pseudonym of Humphrey Hedgehog. A sequence of fictional letters which the author imagines to be taken from a fictitious post bag. The book draws comic vignettes of renowned characters including Byron, Humphrey Davy, Napoleon, Earl Stanhope etc., and illustrates contemporary anecdotes of public British and European life.
One of the poetic letters is addressed to Lord Byron and a 2 page dedication to Lord Byron: states "Should the volume produce a couplet capable of giving you pleasure, this measure may be productive of reciprocal italics gratification.".
