1801 HOWLINGLY RARE NEWLY RECORDED BODMIN/287 MILEAGE.
A Clean undated Cross Post entire letter ( 1804-1814 ) to the Isle of Wight, mss 9.
In the bottom left corner in mss is + Post, carried on the Bodmin to Plymouth Cross Road.
On the back flap is an excellent firm strike of the totally previously unrecorded and thus howlingly rare boxed BODMIN/287 mileage, 26mm x 11mm, a small tear through the right hand edge of the mileage box.
There is no doubt whatsoever about the numeral 8 instead of the recorded 3 in the 283, the 8 is incredibly clear, crisp and readable.
An exceptionally rare item, and far clearer than the usual Bodmin mileage's found.
A true gem of a totally unrecorded mileage.
No Cornish collection will ever be complete without this strike.
To date this is only the second one ever found, after around 200 years.
The other one, also discovered by us, is a poorer strike, this strike is an amazingly full firm and crisp strike, most appealing.
The price reflects the overall superior quailty of this true exhibition piece of English postal history.
