17thC Antique Carved Oak Blanket Box Chest Coffer

Description:
This is a beautiful large four panel late 17th to early 18th Century, original antique, carved oak coffer / blanket box / chest with its original base boards.  The coffer has possibly later Victorian carvings to the panels, having good colour and patination.  The coffer is of unusual form, having four panels and a large piece, standing on stile feet with carved decorations and four carved panels to the front of lozenge and floral designs having intertwining carvings to the stiles, the crest rail having foliate designs with intertwining and dragon scale carvings to the smaller shorter stiles between the panels.  The coffer has chip carving to the top with plain panels, original back boards and original base boards.  The coffer has a later fitted lock, although the locking mechanism has been removed at some period.  The coffer has later fitted hinges.  A fine quality original antique piece of furniture, in very nice condition for its age.

The coffer dates circa 1680 - 1740.

Condition:
The coffer is in good condition for its age, having some old repairs to the rear feet, having a couple of shrinkage shakes in the panels on the top, but these only add to character and authenticity.
