Overview & Area: Important book of the Voyages and discoveries in the Pacific ocean during the 18th century. A very detailed account mostly about Captain Cooks voyage in the Endeavour, but also Byron's voyage to the Tuamoto Islands and the Gilberts, Wallis voyage to Tahiti and Moorea, and Carteret's discovery of Pitcairn Island.
With facsinating (sometimes daily notes and log entrys) detail of the journey, the navigation, the geography, the natives, their languages and habits, plants, animals, etc. With tables of latitudes & longitudes and compass deviations.
Illustrated with 19 (mostly fold-out) plates and 7 engraved fold-out maps. The decorative and detailed maps with anchoring places, some inset plans, depth soundings, tracks of the ships, etc.

Size: approx.: 11.4" x 10" Inches; 29 x 24,5 cm
Condition: 2 Volumes only of 3! With gilted spines. Missing page 569/570 of Volume 1. Lacking 2 maps! Due to the various editions and collations, I am not sure if further plates are missing - please refer to the list for the ones present!
Ex-library, many pages with the library stamp, also to the plates and maps but with stamp to verso! Cover and binding damaged and worn. Most pages very clean, and pages with dark and clear impression. Very faint offsetting to a few plates. With some uneven age-toning, spotting, browning and soiling. Some folds and creasing. A few short tears where folding plates are attached into the book. Volume II has 5 pages in the beginning with wormholes, but only in unprinted blank margins, not affecting any text or plates! No worming or holes to text or plates!
In very attractive and decorative antiquarian condition! => Have a look at the photos for more detail!
