1766 CORK SHIP LETTER
Military Letter, Oporto, Portugal to London via Cork & Dublin.
1766 Ship and Military Letter / Entire written 12th Jan 1766
From The Captain of the British Artillery Company, Stationed in Oporto, Portugal.
To Sir Archibald Edmonstone of Duntreath, Member of Parliament. MP for Carrickfergus.
The Ship letter comes with the following fantastic marks.
(a) "SHIP" (F & K No 432), a single straight line 31mm X 7mm, accompanied by the town name of Cork. Used 1740 - 1774, Struck in Black.
"SHIP" (Robertson Cork S.1), a single straight line 31mm X 7mm, accompanied by the town name of Cork. Used 1761 - 1776, Struck in Black.
(b) "CORK" (F & K No 252), a single straight line uniform height. Used 1763 - 1850, Struck in Black.
(c) "COUNTRY" (F & K No 59), a single straight line 8mm, Used 1748 - 1781, Struck in Black.
(Dublin transit mark found on letters travelling to London).
(d) Charges of 4d and 5d in manuscript cancelled by "Inspectors Crowns" In manuscript charged 1/9d. Ia = In all.
(e) "Bishop Mark" (F & K No 252), 15th March 1766,
Bishop Mark of the Foreign Post Office department, London.
(f) Manuscript, "Per favour of Capt Miller Q.D.C", (Quem Deus Conservat = Whom God Preserve).
