Robert Dodsley 1703-1764 the son of a Mansfield schoolmaster was employed as footman before (with assistance from Alexander Pope) he became established as a poet, a playwright, and a bookseller. He published most of the works of the serious literary writers of his time and was a close friend of many writers whom he published.
 In 1745 he published this scarce collection of his dramatic works and some poems which had been issued separately, in this one volume.
Each play has its own half title page and the play The Blind Beggar has an illustrated title page.
One of the works in this volume, The Chronicle Of The Kings Of England, a biographical discourse on the rulers of England was later attributed to Lord Chesterfield.

356 Pages in total plus a 10 page list of : Books Printed for R. Dodsley in rear.

Condition
Recently rebound with leather spine and corners, gilt lettered title label, marbled boards and new endpapers.
Pages have some browning and foxing, the half title and title page have small old repairs, a very few pages have early handwritten comments, signature on title page: Edw'd Andrews. All complete.
Size is 8¼ by 5¼ inches.
