THE STOLEN JOOLS (1931)

CONSIDERED A LOST FILM UNTIL 1972

This is an excellent original Thunderbirds Films print of the above 2 reel comedy short. Mounted on an as new metal spool. There is not one splice in the entire print. This print is in EXCELLENT CONDITION BLACK AND WHITE print with absolutely no damage or splices

Star-packed promotional short subject intended to raise funds for the National Variety Artists tuberculosis sanatarium, produced in association with a cigarette company! Plot involves the investigation of the reported theft of Norma Shearer's jewelry. Laurel & Hardy appear briefly (as does every other cast member) as two detectives.

In a Los Angeles police station, it is reported that Norma Shearer's pearls have been stolen. A detective is sent to the actress' home to interrogate party guests, most of whom are famous Hollywood stars. The detective ends up chasing leads all over town, ending up at a movie studio, where he learns the truth behind "the slippery pearls."

Most of the stars in this short happen very quickly and without dialog, so you need to be paying attention. Gary Cooper in this cameo role as a reporter actually has arguably the most screen time then any other cameo by a celebrity. Joan Crawford was quick. Fay Wray stuck and looked amazing. Barabara Stanwyck had some dialog and looked great. Even though this Short is 20 min. its fun to watch, especially now, they show some aereal and street shots of Hollywood, all the great celebrities of the time.

THE PICTURE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT WITH NO SPLICES OR DAMAGE THROUGHOUT.  THE OPTICAL SOUNDTRACK WHILST AUDIBLE AND LOUD IS A LITTLE FUZZY.  HOWEVER CONSIDERING THIS WAS ONCE A LOST FILM IT IS A RARE TREAT TO OWN ON FILM.
