Car Mechanics.
July 1961.
Car Mechanics is a long-running United Kingdom publication that focuses on the mechanical and running side of car ownership. As such for the main part get articles on stripping down brakes, bodywork modifications, right up to full servicing details or building a caravan out of plywood. The articles are written by people that generally actually own the cars shown - as such they encounter the same problems that you or I would when working on cars. As such many people use these magazines as a supplement to a workshop manual - the features sometimes fill in the blanks of a manual! The articles are well written and interesting, plus the photographs are not as arty as some of the magazines tend to be - here you can actually recognise the cars or components!
Car Mechanics magazine was never intended to be a publication concerned with running classic cars - cars featured were generally only ever a few years old. You know the type; new enough to be looked after, but old enough so as to make using dealerships for repairs uneconomical. But as the years have moved on, so too have the cars - cars featured as relatively new then are classics to us now.
This particular issue, for your interest and enjoyment, has articles on:
- Brake snatch cure.
- Consul care.
- Rennovating rubber.
- Keep down costs.
- Home respray.
- Hot rod.
...and don't forget the period advertisements. Often this part of the magazine is worth the cover price alone!
Note that I have over 1,000 magazines listed in my eBay shop. To find these, click on the shop icon. Then, in the little search box down to the left simply type in the detail you are interested in. Manufacturer, car, person, event or even car registration number - be creative!

Please note that these are all my own magazines that I have collected over the years. I buy around 20 a month, and have done so for almost three decades. In addition I also bulk buy at car boot sales, so I've thousands upon thousands of magazines in the house. All I'm doing now is thinning my collection down a little. Hence all of the magazines are in used, but good condition. I run older cars as a hobby, and from time-to-time buy a motorbike for fun. My last bike was a new Suzuki Bandit 600 that I put 50,000 miles on in under 5 years. At the moment my car is an old Volvo - cheaper than the train!
Post: I try and be as fair as possible with postage rates. But these days postage outside of Europe is very high, so I cannot do anything to cheapen these rates unfortunately. Sometimes the Post Office makes a mistake on the rates, so if this happens I pass the savings back to the buyer. Most of my magazines go out double wrapped for protection, so they arrive in good condition. If you want to buy more than one, please feel free - but ignore the auto-invoice from eBay as I will combine shipping for all multiple purchases.
I do not accept IBAN / International Bank Transfer as a means of payment. And, I hate to say this, but for German buyers I will block all e-mails that originate outside of eBay - I do not like the spam e-mails that follow on! |
