The first photo is fairly accurate to the color of the real artifact; the second photo was lightened to show the inscribed design. This cross came out of a large collection where the original collector died over 30 years ago so, there is no way of telling the age of this crucifix or where it might have come from, only an approximation of its age. When the collection came into my possession, this crucifix was valued between $2,500 and $3,000 six years ago. Featuring a very stylistic figure of Christ on the side remaining of what was a reliquary of Christ or the crucifix. Somewhere in past, the cross was broken either accidentally or purposefully to gain access to its contents. The title reliquary is given to an item intended to secretly house an artifact of the crucifixion, like a splinter of the cross, Jesus' robe, a small piece of anything that pertained to the crucifixion. The copper is still in the oxidizing process, the chain is a more modern addition with an extension piece of chain for extending the length. This crucifix is one of three such crosses like this. They are extremely interesting. The measurements are approximately 1 3/4" (4.445 cm) across X 3 3/4" (9.525 cm) deep X 1/18" (3.125 cm) thick.
