View your area as it was in the 1800s - it has never been easier to compare the past with today. Cassini Historical Maps can be used with your modern Ordnance Survey Landranger® map to compare the past with the present. This map is based upon original Ordnance Survey 'Old Series' maps which were first published in the mid 1800s. They have all been carefully scanned, digitally re-projected and enlarged to cover the same area of the corresponding modern OS Landranger® and use the same sheet number and grid references, so enabling the past and the present to be compared with ease and accuracy. SEE ALSO the corresponding 1890/1900s 'Revised New Series' and the 1920s 'Popular Edition' maps covering the same area and with the same title & map number, both available in our ebayshop.
This item is a brand new Cassini Historical OS Map - enlarged from original Victorian maps to enable easy comparison alongside an equivalent modern Ordnance Survey map:

Cassini Maps (formerly Timeline Maps) is a company specialising in sourcing, scanning, digitally enhancing and re-publishing historical maps in a variety of formats. Their aim is to produce maps of the highest quality which are also relevant to current-day research needs.
Cassini's Historical Map series covers the whole of England and Wales. It is based on Ordnance Survey's one inch to the mile (Old Series) maps, published between 1805 and 1874. This was the first accurate national survey and records a time of momentous transition from an agrarian to an industrialised society.
A central feature of the Historical Map series is that the originals have been combined, re-scaled and re-projected exactly to match Ordnance Survery's modern-day Landrangers®. They even have the same map identification number and the same British National Grid references. This enables direct comparison of the past and present in a way not possible with maps of different specifications. They are the same size as the Landrangers® when open or folded and have a similar laminated colour cover.
Whether you're a local historian, a genealogist, a student, a walker or someone with a general interest in the history of your area, these maps will be a valuable addition to your library. Although often hidden behind unfamiliar names or buried under concrete or tarmac, the past is all around us and waiting to be discovered. Cassini's Historical Map series will help point out the way.
