12Volt Thermostat relay kit,Ideal for use with home made incubators etc, this great little device is capable of turning off a 12v bulb used to warm an incubator when a required temperature is reached,it will turn the bulb back on again as the temperature starts to fall, the only other items needed to make a homemade incubator are an insulated wooden or thick cardboard box to help retain the heat,a 12v bulb,I used a 20 watt downlighter bulb, and a 12v power supply, the power supply provides power to both the bulb and the thermostat, the bulb is connected in series to the thermostat and will automatically cut off when the incubator reaches a certain temperature controlled by a dial on the thermostat, there is a thermistor supplied which is basically the temperature sender that connects to two terminals on the thermostat although I soldered a couple of thin cables to it when I made my incubator as I didnt want the thermostat in the incubator with the eggs, the thermistor in the boxed kit isnt quite in range as it only works with temperatures between 41 and 86 degrees but I i will supply another one with it that works with temperatures of 90 degrees + so you can adjust to get the desired temperature,I keep my homemade incubator at around 99 degrees,as said previously this is supplied in kit form so will require soldering together, its a pretty easy project to do though,a picture of the finished product in action is below, obviously the homemade incubator and assembled thermostat arent part of this auction though, you get to do the fun bit yourself,a knowledge of how relays are wired will help in getting things up and running but is not essential,I didnt have a clue but managed to suss out how to wire the bulb to it in about 20 mins,I will enclose a basic diagram though to help make it easier and save you 20 mins ! it can of course also run 12v fans so your incubator doesnt have to be a still air model,a cheap modified computer fan will do the job nicely, the fan and bulb will switch off and back on again simultaneously, if you are thinking of making an incubator that isnt thermostatically controlled good luck, with a 20 watt bulb it will almost certainly overheat and you will end up frying any eggs that are placed too close to the bulb,I did exactly this last year which is why this latest homemade incubator is thermostatically controlled and well insulated to allow for cold weather, its certainly holding a better temperature than the shop bought covatutto 6 I use occasionally ! of course this thermostat kit can also be used for cooling projects,ie: fans come on when a set temperature is reached so there are lots of different uses,a very handy gadget!
