12 pages(6 leaves) very large 16th-17th Century vellum (animal skin) pages from an Ethiopian Coptic Bible handwritten in Ge'ez script,an ancient Semitic language related to the archaic Sabaean dialects of Yemen .Text is written in red and black ink,the red denoting headings and key words such as holy places and people.Pages are twice the size of other Ethiopian bibles I have encountered,9"high x 8" wide.The pages are thick and stiff in very fine antiquariate condition. These pages have not been circulated around and are fresh out of Africa.Some of the pages have wax droppings from Coptic services and have not been cleaned or altered.
