What is a stainless steel grade and why is 18/10 better than 18/0?

 

The numbers above represent the chromium content in the product. In general when the chromium content is increased during the creation of a stainless steel product the corrosion and oxidation resistance improves. The higher quality grades of stainless steel, such as 18/8 and 18/10 also benefit from the addition of nickel, which, further strengthens the oxide film and improves resistance to corrosion.

 

18/10 products offer the highest grade available. They contain 18% chromium and 10% nickel. This makes it highly resistant to staining, rusting and corrosion. Its durability, perfect lustre and resistance to strong detergents makes it ideally suited to today’s requirements of modern living.
