An antique, restored 11.75m2+ / 125 sq ft French ‘Douzies Maubege’ ceramic encaustic floor dated c.1915-1920. Both the field and border tiles are 15cm sq (nearly 6 inches) and 1.5cm thick. The floor is a classical tessellation in a warm palette containing reds, yellows and primrose blue on an off white background. The two motif tessellation links a blue square backed open flower with a charcoal coloured ‘scrolled ironwork’ cross. The oval themed borders, principally in burgundy are warm and borrow from the floors palette. The ornate border tiles can be laid as either a single run or as a double 'back to back' run (both options are shown in the photographs). 

The floor was reclaimed from a Town House close to Longwy in France and has had its old lime based mortar removed from the back and sides of the tiles. These are a quality ceramic, in good condition, and have cleaned beautifully to reveal a good slip and vibrant colours.
