Dumpy Level with Box


Low Initial Bid Price! This item is an incredibly detailed polished brass 10 inch telescope with levelers and compass on tripod base ( tripod not included, but available sometimes ). Most prefer it without tripod so we order with tripod sometimes, but normally without. 
The unit swivels on the base, with lock, fine adjustment, has compass , mirror on level  for viewing while sighting thru the telescope, sighting thru telescope is inverted. This item is not made 100% perfect but I consider it a nice reproduction of times gone by, and made much nicer than most reproductions. We purchased it as working model, which means it is ready for calibration and can be used. I am not an expert on these but get excellent comments from customers that understand reproductions.
This reproduction is crafted to show what was used by surveyors and careful observers a century ago.
Box is dovetail constructed.
The base also has three heavy brass screw legs that can be adjusted independently to precise level the entire telescope surveying instrument. The threads in the base for tripod are 1 1/4 in course thread.
An elegant design, this looks and feels like it is right out of surveying yesteryear. Would make an excellent gift for the survey, compass and telescope enthusiast and novice alike. Certainly an item for the most descerning compass, telescope, brass, nautical, surveying, engineering instrument, or other display collection. Shines on  display! A little polishing will make it shine even more.

This detailed instrument measures approximately 11 inches , 4 inches high with mirrow down, and 6 1/2 inches wide .
If you want high accuracy always spend the big bucks and buy new machine made items. These were designed many years ago when we did not have todays standards.
