History of the Iraqi Dinar
The USA paid for the new currency, which is printed in the UK and was designed by the Hampshire-based company De La Rue.
The notes were first shown in October 2003 during a press conference in Baghdad. The New Iraqi Dinar (NID) was introduced as the official currency of Iraq.

Can't I just Buy the Dinar from a Currency Exchange and Get Better Rates?
Unless you live in Iraq it is impossible to buy it from currency exchangers as it is not traded internationally (the FOREX). Once it is you will be able to but we believe by that time the price of the dinar will have appreciated quite considerably and there will be no point investing.

The current Iraq Dinar (IQD) was introduced for a 1:1 exchange rate to New Dinars between October 2003 and January 2004 by the Coalition Provisional Authority in close consultation with financial experts from Iraq and the international community. The old "Saddam" Dinar has no current value.
Iraq has the second largest Oil reserves in the world next to Saudi Arabia. It also has the largest natural gas reserve.(a great percentage of Iraq has not even been searched for oil)! In recent years only a small percentage of the country was pumping oil but still it managed to make nearly all of Iraq's revenue. Now shell, Bp and many more oil companies have all been granted right's to search for new oil.
The Dinar is now at post-war levels. This is a perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy a currency that has been devalued by conflict. An investment in the German Mark after World War II would have allowed for an early retirement. The Kuwait Dinar, reduced to a value of $0.10 after the first Gulf War, has rebounded to its current value of $3.42! This is a great opportunity to buy low with the potential to sell HIGH!
A huge 30 billion US dollars have been collected already for the reconstruction of the country. Another great sign is companies looking to invest in the country (such as Coca Cola) which could be a turning point for improving the infrastructure.
