F-Toys Twin Engine Aircraft Collection 3 - Assembled and Fully Pre-Painted 1:144 Scale Models of W.W.II. CASE SPECIAL.

This is your opportunity to own a miniature version of a German Ju.88 A-4 (trop) with the markings S4 + OH of 1./KüFl.Gr 506 based in Northern Germany in 1942.  With an upper standard splinter cammo and blackened underside, aircaft of 1./KüFl.Gr 506 were deployed in long range Recce and coastal anti-shipping operations.

This superb twin engine model has well defined panel lines and excellent construction with good quality painting. Unlike the two other basic Ju.88 models from this series, this scpecial does not have an open bomb bay!

The inset photograph shows the model essentially as it 'comes from the box' with the major insignia having been applied in the factory.  A mini-sheet of high quality decals enables completion / customisation. I have added the L1 decals from the 1st Staffel on the model featured in the photographs. Tail insignia decals are not included.

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS

Constructed from injection moulded high quality ABS plastic, this F-Toys series includes four different World War II, twin engine aircraft with three variants of each, including limited issue 'Case Specials.' There is an additional lottery special which can be applied for with box tokens.

The Ju.88 model is approximately 100 mm in length with a wing span of 140 mm (4.0" x 5.5").  It comes fully assembled and painted, requiring only addition of undercarriage and aerials.  Optional undercarriage parts allow it to be assembled with wheels raised or lowered.  It also comes with a mini sheet of high quality decals plus an attractive easy-fit flying stand.  This has a unique universal joint, allowing the model to be displayed in various flying attitudes.

Having assembled all of the models for phototgraphy, I can advise that the superbly tooled parts are a simple, albeit tight, push fit.  Liquid poly / clear canopy adhesive is advisable to fully secure the asembled parts.  As the use of a sharp knife also is required, e.g. to cut the undercarrriage from the mini-sprues, the models are unsuitable for children under 14.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Junkers Ju.88 was a WWII Luftwaffe twin-engine, multi-role aircraft. Among the most versatile planes of the war, it was used as a bomber, close-support aircraft, nightfighter, torpedo bomber and reconnaissance aircraft, and even as a giant flying bomb in the Mistel project. Despite its protracted development, the aircraft became one of the Luftwaffe's most crucial assets. 15,000 Ju.88s were built during WWII.
