Pendraken Unpainted White Metal Kit - GR-116:  W.W.II. DFS-230 German Assault Glider.

Although designed at 10mm scale, this model is suitable for displaying with 1:144 and N scale figures and models.  The 12mm paratroops in the photographs are shown for scale only and are not included in the sale.  They are available elsewhere in my e-bay store, together with other Axis and Allied infantry, armour, artillery, soft skins, etc..

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The DFS 230 was a German transport glider operated by the Luftwaffe in World War II. It was developed by the (Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug (DFS - "German Research Institute for Sailplane Flight") with Hans Jacobs as the head designer. The glider was the German inspiration for the British Hotspur glider and was intended for paratrooper assault operations. The glider could carry 10 soldiers with equipment or a payload of about 1,200 kg. They were used in the landings at Fort Eben-Emael and Crete, as well as in North Africa and in the rescue of Benito Mussolini.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The body, wings and tail come as a 4 piece white metal kit having an assembled length of 88mm and a wing span of 138 mm (3.5" x 5.4").  The wing leading edges and body side may require some dressing to remove minor flash / fill in rare pitting.  The assembled weight is 100g.

As the model requires the use of files, craft knife, body putty, super glue and paint for assembly, it is unsuitable for children under 14.
