Dragon Can.Do 1:144 Scale, Pre-Built and Painted W.W.II. AFV Replicas - Series 17:  German 'Stug III & IVs' - USA issue with optional Display Case.

Once again Dragon Can.do reafirm their place as the masters of miniature AFV replicas with their prebuilt and painted 'Series 17' German Sturmgeschutz.  There are seven different vehicles to collect.  Model #5 on sale here represents a 15cm Sturm-Infanteriegeschutz 33 Ausf.Pz.III in the colours worn by StuG. Battalion 177 operating in Stalingrad during 1942.  This model amounts to only 17% of Can.do's production run for the Series.

The photographs cleary illustrate the quality of the models as they 'come from the box'.  The 12mm painted metal figures, courtesy of D. Ireland, are shown for scale only and are not included in the sale.  They are available in the '12mm figures' section of my e-bay store.

SERIES FEATURES

Injection moulded in high density ABS plastic and each measuring under 45mm (1.75") in length, all seven models in this series are fitted with rubberised tracks!  This means the supporting road wheels are crisply moulded with no unsightly flash.

HISTORICAL NOTE

Although renowned as a tank destroyer, the Sturmgeschutz, which comprised an assault gun (or howitzer) mounted on an armoured fighting vehicle, was designed for a direct fire role in support of infantry attacking other infantry or fortified positions.

The custom-built armored assault guns usually mounted the gun in a fully enclosed casemate on a tank chassis.  Although the  turretless construction limited these weapons' field of fire, it provided a simpler construction that was cheaper to build and less prone to mechanical breakdowns.  The increased space and reduced weight of the turretless design also allowed mounting a larger weapon and for heavier frontal armor on any given chassis.  Also, in most cases, these turretless vehicles presented a lower profile for an enemy to target.
