Teleplus is one of the best known tele converter brands (made by Kenko), and this high quality 2x macro model is for Pentax K, KA and PK plus Ricoh XR and KR bayonet mount manual focus SLR cameras, as well as Pentax AF and digital SLRs with manual focusing (see below). It's new and boxed, and comes complete with case, instructions and caps. The optical design uses seven elements for optimum quality - cheaper types often only have four elements. Multicoated (MC) glass is used to reduce flare and light loss, and increase contrast and colour fidelity.

This converter fits between the camera and lens, and gives you really impressive close focusing up to life size. This fills the frame with a subject as small as 24x36mm (1x1.5 inches) on film, and even smaller on digital, and is ideal for photographing many small objects such as coins, stamps, insects, etc. Magnification is variable, and turning the macro ring on the converter changes the close focus setting from 1:10 all the way to 1:1 (life size). These figures apply to a 50mm standard lens, and magnification varies with the lens used. With a wide angle lens you'll get closer focusing and higher magnification. Telephoto lenses will give less magnification, but more comfortable working distances.

Used on Pentax or Samsung digital SLRs with the standard 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens, it gives a field of view equivalent to a 36-110mm zoom (54-165mm with the digital crop factor), focusing manually right down to the front of the lens. This gives a macro reproduction ratio of up to 1.8:1 (1.8x life size), filling the frame with a subject as small as 9x13mm (0.35x0.53 inches).

The converter couples to the camera's auto diaphragm and full aperture metering systems, and will work in all auto and manual exposure and metering modes (see below). TTL metering systems (including TTL flash) will handle the exposure compensation required for close ups automatically.

It also works as a normal 2x teleconverter and can be used with just about any lens (except some very wide/old types, where the rear elements protrude too far), but works best with standard and telephoto lenses, so a 50mm becomes a 100mm, a 135mm becomes a 270mm, and a reasonably priced 200mm becomes a 400mm. Good zooms can also work well, with a 70-210mm becoming a 140-420mm, which would usually be very expensive.

This 2x KAX Macro Teleplus MC7 converter is beautifully made (in Japan) with a solid, metal barrel and lens mounts, rubber grip on the close focus ring, clear markings and a high standard of fit and finish. The converter adds only around 45mm (1.75 inches) to the length of the lens attached, and weighs a solid 270g.

It fits all Ricoh K-mount cameras, including the KR-5, KR-10, KR-10 Super, KR-10X, XR-1, XR-1s, XR-2, XR-2s, XR-X (XR-M), XR-X 3000, XR-P and many other XR and KR models. In both cases, the mechanical and electronic connections are included for auto diaphragm, full aperture metering and all exposure and metering modes including multi-pattern, program and shutter priority where available.

Equally suitable for the Pentax-based Samsung GX-1S, GX-1L, GX-10 and GX-20 cameras, but not other Samsung models. Auto diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all exposure and metering modes, and manual focusing only. All exposure modes work, with AF or KA lenses. Even works with Pentax DA digital lenses, on digital cameras.

The exception is the Pentax MZ-60 (ZX-60) which will NOT work at all with manual focus lenses and accessories.

NOTE: Some independent manual lenses and accessories don't fit AF cameras or the MZ-M, as protrusions at the rear foul features on the mount. We've checked this converter on Pentax AF and digital cameras, and it fits and works fine. Please contact us if you have any questions about compatibility with your equipment.
